Let’s boil it down based upon hundreds of leadership training programs. Of all the
qualities leaders need to succeed, there are basically 4 attributes that really
count.
- Great leaders need to be trustworthy. You must earn the right to your authority…through competence, good judgment, sincere intentions and integrity. You need to behave in the way you want your followers to behave.
- Great leaders need to be great motivators. Employees aren’t in it just for the money and they will not respond eagerly to a plea to work hard for the stockholders. You need to give your followers something grand and worthwhile to believe in.
- Great leaders need to be great communicators. You need to be able to clearly communicate your vision in a way that inspires others to follow. The way you tell your story will show your passion and draw others’ commitment to your cause.
- Great leaders need courage. Once you have employees who trust you and who are ready to help achieve your vision, you need to be ready to launch the effort. A big step for once you begin the journey, you must have the drive and perseverance to complete it.
