Great Leaders Articulate Their Company’s Essence

Great leaders know what makes their company special and different. And they know that the further they can broadcast and promote this distinction, the more recognizable and appreciated their brand will be.

Think of Apple…one could say that Apple is special because it knows how to innovate and create unique, future-oriented products that capture the imagination and discretionary spending money of its global customer base.

How would you describe your company’s essence? One leadership training program facilitator suggests you pose these questions to help you define the core value of your organization:

  1. What do you consider your company’s most significant accomplishment? In other words, when your company name is mentioned, what do your customers think of first and remember most?

  2. What would they miss if your company had never existed?

  3. What did your company bring to the marketplace “table” that no one else could provide?
So much of business success is tied up in being able to differentiate your company or your product or your offering. This is what gives you an edge on your competition. Time spent clarifying what you do that no one else can do will pay meaningful dividends.
